In fact, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been having some lighting and smoke rendering problems, and one player was unlucky enough to come across the most serious variant of this problem the community has seen yet. Their screen completely filled up with smoke seemingly out of the blue, making it impossible to continue playing the game.

Reddit user llWhiskeySourll posted his experience with what seems like massively bugged volumetric rendering. What makes it somewhat hilarious, however, is the fact that a wholly different bug allows certain Modern Warfare 2 scopes see through smoke. In effect, this means it’s completely plausible that someone had a perfectly clear sight of what llWhiskeySourll was doing, all the while they themselves couldn’t see much of anything at all.

The second weekend of Modern Warfare 2’s beta added more maps and other assorted content, as well as allowing PC and Xbox players to jump into the fray. With more platforms and players being invited to try the game out, it was only a matter of time until more bugs and issues were revealed, which should allow Infinity Ward to patch things up ahead of the game’s late October release date.

Sadly, hackers are ruining some Modern Warfare 2 matches already, which means they’re bound to have a presence in the full game as well. It’s currently unknown just how many malicious players are present in the beta, but it seems that the odds of encountering them are relatively high at this time. Whether they’re a bigger issue than the beta’s wealth of bugs and other assorted technical issues is a wholly different manner.

It’s worth pointing out that some of the beta’s bugged features worked in players’ favor, too. Namely, one Modern Warfare 2 player accessed unreleased guns, showing them off to the rest of the community. The beta only allows access to a very limited number of weapons and attachments, but the full game will have a far more substantial array of options to choose from. With a bit of luck, Infinity Ward will be able to patch up smoke-related problems for the full release, too.
