PlayStation released a brand new video today with Treyarch Studio Design Director David Vonderhaar discussing many key details about Call of Duty Black Ops 4’s massive Blackout map. It terms of its size, Vonderhaar stated the battle royale map is 1500 times the size of Nuketown. While it’s true Nuketown itself isn’t large to begin with, to see a ratio of that caliber is one to take notice of.

Vonderhaar also made mention of the means in which players can travel across the map playing a pivotal role in each session’s outcome, be it by vehicle or on foot. However, he was quick to mention that this iteration on Call of Duty online multiplayer brings with it a use of verticality that’s never been seen before in the franchise’s history.

Also highlighted were a few of the areas in the map which will surely be high populated zones throughout most online sessions. It’s no secret that Treyarch has stitched together many of their older multiplayer maps to make what is the final product of Blackout, bringing back the likes of Nuketown, Raid, and Stronghold which look to be just some of the numerous locations players can access.

It’s good for Treyarch to give a nice refresher for Blackout on the eve of the game’s official launch. There had been concerns in the months leading up to launch what the player count would actually be for Blackout, but with the success of their open beta a couple of weeks ago, reaching the desired one hundred total players won’t be a problem for Treyarch.

Even for players who aren’t looking forward to Blackout, Call of Duty Black Ops 4 will still come with its standard online multiplayer maps, while also bringing together a brand new story for zombies. With the inclusion of Blackout, however, Treyarch decided this year to exclude a traditional single-player campaign, sometime Call of Duty has never done in the franchise’s history.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 launches on October 12th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
