This is according to Eurogamer, who spoke with multiple sources on the matter. Unfortunately, the publication was unable to confirm additional details about the game, except that it will have a “more grounded feeling.” This could be an indication that its setting will be modern times as Sellars has suggested, though such an approach could also be accomplished with a historical setting.
One claim made by Sellars has yet to be verified, and that is whether or not the game is also in the works for Nintendo Switch. Past Call of Duty games have released on Nintendo consoles, so it wouldn’t be out of the question to see Black Ops 4 make its way to the Switch. After all, the Switch is enjoying record-breaking sales for a home console, and it would make sense for Activision to try to capitalize on its growing player base with a Black Ops 4 port.
Specific platforms should be confirmed for Black Ops 4 when the game is officially announced by Activision. The game’s announcement should come by the time E3 rolls around in June, with the first trailer likely dropping in May. At that time, we should learn more about not only Black Ops 4’s consoles, but also story details and new gameplay features.
It’s true that the game has yet to be officially announced, but there’s just too much evidence that 2018’s Call of Duty is Black Ops 4. Prior to Eurogamer confirming the game’s existence through its sources, the voice actor for Frank Woods accidentally confirmed that he was working on the game. Anyone anxious for an official announcement, though, will likely have to wait a few months.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will launch in late 2018 for unspecified platforms.
