The news comes from Jeff Grubb, who is using the news to build anticipation for his upcoming Giant Bomb Game Mess show on Monday. Grubb dropped a tweet saying that the “Wakanda Forever trailer is great. Let’s talk about the Black Panther game live tomorrow.” To be clear, there is no currently known major Black Panther video game in development. As such, Grubb is assumedly talking about revealing a previously unknown project that he’s learned about from one of his sources.

Given the brevity of Grubb’s tweet, there’s a lot of room for misconception. Grubb could be referring to 2021’s Black Panther: War for Wakanda DLC release for Marvel’s Avengers. He could be talking about the Black Panther: Jungle Pursuit browser game on Marvel HQ, for all anyone knows. He could even be talking about a Black Panther game that was in development but has since been canceled. Long story short, Black Panther fans should probably keep their expectations in check before Grubb shares more information.
As for what kind of game Black Panther could be, who might be developing and publishing it, and when it might be expected, it’s anyone’s guess. Marvel’s licensed its superhero properties to a diverse range of game developers recently. There’s Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, a live service action game and an RPG, respectively. Then there’s Insomniac’s Spider-Man games and Wolverine. Midnight Suns is a soon-to-release tactical RPG. Marvel Snap is a free-to-play mobile card game. There’s even a secret Marvel adventure game from Amy Hennig and the new studio Skydance New Media in the works.
Suffice to say, trying to predict what project this Black Panther may or may not be is likely to be fruitless. There’s no denying that a Black Panther game akin to what Insomniac has done with Spider-Man wouldn’t be welcomed. Some have even said they’d have preferred a Black Panther game over Wolverine.
Gamers can expect more insight into Grubb’s insider information tomorrow. Past that, the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever film releases in November. Perhaps Marvel will want to share news about a Black Panther video game before then.
A Black Panther video game is rumored to be in development.
